How Scripture Defines YHVH’s Law
Man certainly has put their own interpretations on the Word of YHVH. Lets take a look at how scripture defines His Torah (instructions/Law).
1. The Law blesses (obey) and curses (disobey)
D’varim (Deuteronomy 11:26-27) ~ See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse — 27 the blessing, if you listen to the mitzvot of YHVH your Elohim that I am giving you today;
Psalm 112:1 ~ How happy is anyone who fears YHVH, who greatly delights in his mitzvot.
Psalm 119:1-2 ~ How happy are those whose way of life is blameless, who live by the Torah of YHVH! How happy are those who observe his instruction, who seek him wholeheartedly!
Psalm 128:1 ~ How happy is everyone who fears YHVH, who lives by his ways.
Proverbs 8:32 ~ Therefore, children, listen to me: happy are those who keep my ways.
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 56:2 ~ Happy is the person who does this, anyone who grasps it firmly, who keeps Shabbat and does not profane it, and keeps himself from doing any evil.
Matisyahu (Matthew) 5:6 ~ How blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness! for they will be filled.
Matisyahu (Matthew) 5:10 ~ How blessed are those who are persecuted because they pursue righteousness! for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
Luke 11:28 ~ But he said, “Far more blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it!”
Ya’akov (James) 1:25 ~ But if a person looks closely into the perfect Torah, which gives freedom, and continues, becoming not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work it requires, then he will be blessed in what he does.
1 Kefa (1 Peter) 3:14 ~ But even if you do suffer for being righteous, you are blessed! Moreover, don’t fear what they fear or be disturbed
Revelation 22:14 ~ How blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they have the right to eat from the Tree of Life and go through the gates into the city!
2. The Law defines sin (disobey)
Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 44:23 ~ It is because you offered incense, sinned against YHVH, didn’t listen to what YHVH said, and didn’t live by his Torah, regulations and instructions that this disaster has befallen you, as it is today.
Yechezk’el (Ezekiel) 18:21 ~ However, if the wicked person repents of all the sins he committed, keeps my laws and does what is lawful and right; then he will certainly live, he will not die.
Dani’el (Daniel) 9:11 ~ Yes, all Isra’el flouted your Torah and turned away, unwilling to listen to your voice. Therefore the curse and oath written in the Torah of Moshe the servant of God was poured out on us, because we sinned against him.
Romans 3:20 ~ For in his sight no one alive will be considered righteous on the ground of legalistic observance of Torah commands, because what Torah really does is show people how sinful they are.
Romans 7:7 ~ Therefore, what are we to say? That the Torah is sinful? Heaven forbid! Rather, the function of the Torah was that without it, I would not have known what sin is. For example, I would not have become conscious of what greed is if theTorah had not said, “Thou shalt not covet.”
1 Yochanan (1 John) 3:4 ~ Everyone who keeps sinning is violating Torah — indeed, sin is violation of Torah.
3. The Law is perfect
Psalm 19:7 ~ The Torah of YHVH is perfect, restoring the inner person. The instruction of YHVH is sure, making wise the thoughtless.
Ya’akov (James) 1:25 ~ But if a person looks closely into the perfect Torah, which gives freedom, and continues, becoming not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work it requires, then he will be blessed in what he does.
4. The Law is the way
Sh’mot (Exodus) 18:20 ~ You should also teach them the laws and the teachings, and show them how to live their lives and what work they should do.
D’varim (Deuteronomy) 10:12 ~ So now, Isra’el, all that YHVH your Elohim asks from you is to fear YHVH your Elohim, follow all his ways, love him and serve YHVH your Elohim with all your heart and all your being
Y’hoshua (Joshua) 22:5 ~ Only take great care to obey the mitzvah and the Torah which Moshe the servant of YHVH gave you — to love YHVH your Elohim, follow all his ways, observe his mitzvot, cling to him, and serve him with all your heart and being.
M’lakhim Alef (1 Kings) 2:3 ~ Observe the charge of YHVH your Elohim to go in his ways and keep his regulations, mitzvot, rulings and instructions in accordance with what is written in the Torah of Moshe; so that you will succeed in all you do and wherever you go.
Psalm 119:1 ~ How happy are those whose way of life is blameless, who live by the Torah of YHVH!
Proverbs 6:23 ~ For the mitzvah is a lamp, Torah is light, and reproofs that discipline are the way to life.
Yesha’yahu 2:3 ~ Many peoples will go and say, “Come, let’s go up to the mountain of YHVH, to the house of the Elohim of Ya‘akov! He will teach us about his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For out of Tziyon will go forth Torah, the word of YHVH from Yerushalayim.
Mal’akhi (Malachi) ~ But you turned away from the path, you caused many to fail in the Torah, you corrupted the covenant of Levi,” says Adonai-Tzva’ot.
Mark 12:14 ~ They came and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you tell the truth and are not concerned with what people think about you, since you pay no attention to a person’s status but really teach what Elohim’s way is”
Acts 24:14 ~ But this I do admit to you: I worship the Elohim of our fathers in accordance with the Way (which they call a sect). I continue to believe everything that accords with the Torah and everything written in the Prophets.
5. The Law is liberty/freedom
Psalm 119:45 ~ I will go wherever I like, for I have sought your precepts.
Ya’akov (James) 1:25 ~ But if a person looks closely into the perfect Torah, which gives freedom, and continues, becoming not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work it requires, then he will be blessed in what he does.
Ya’akov (James) 2:12 ~ Keep speaking and acting like people who will be judged by a Torah which gives freedom.
6. The Law is the truth
Psalm 119:142 ~ Your righteousness is eternal righteousness, and your Torah is truth.
Mal’akhi (Malachi) ~ The true Torah was in his mouth, and no dishonesty was found on his lips; he walked with me in peace and uprightness and turned many away from sin.
Romans 2:20 ~ an instructor for the spiritually unaware and a teacher of children, since in the Torah you have the embodiment of knowledge and truth;
Galatians 5:7 ~ You were running the race well; who has stopped you from following the truth?
Psalm 43:1 ~ For you are the God of my strength; why have you thrust me aside? Why must I go about mourning, under pressure by the enemy? Send out your light and your truth; let them be my guide; let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the places where you live. Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and delight; I will praise you on the lyre, God, my God.
John 8:31-32 So Yeshua said to the Judeans who had trusted him, “If you obey what I say, then you are really my talmidim,you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
7. The Law is life
Job 33:30 ~ to bring him back from the pit, so that he can enjoy the light of the living.
Psalm 36:9 ~ For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.

8. The Law is light
Job 24:13 ~ There are those who rebel against the light — they don’t know its ways or stay in its paths.
Job 29:3 ~ when his lamp shone over my head, and I walked through the dark by its light;
Psalm 36:9 ~ For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.
Psalm 43:3 ~ Send out your light and your truth; let them be my guide; let them lead me to your holy mountain, to the places where you live.
Psalm 119:105 ~ Your word is a lamp for my foot and light on my path.

Isaiah 2:5 ~ Descendants of Ya‘akov, come! Let’s live in the light of YHVH!
Isaiah 51:4 ~ Pay attention to me, my people! My nation, listen to me! For Torah will go out from me; I will calm them with my justice as a light for the peoples.
2 Cor 6:14 ~ Do not yoke yourselves together in a team with unbelievers. For how can righteousness and lawlessness be partners? What fellowship does light have with darkness?
1 John 1:7 ~ But if we are walking in the light, as he is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of his Son Yeshua purifies us from all sin.
