I have been in non-denominational congregations for most of my life and in those assemblies, 1 Peter 2:9 was often used to say that those who are “SAVED” now take “THE PLACE” of those, the royal priesthood, who YHWH ordained in the Torah.
Read 1 Peter 2:9 in context:
4 As you come to him, the living stone, rejected by people but chosen by God and precious to him,
5 you yourselves, as living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be cohanim set apart for God to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to him through Yeshua the Messiah.
6 This is why the Tanakh says, “Look! I am laying in Tziyon a stone, a chosen and precious cornerstone; and whoever rests his trust on it will certainly not be humiliated.”
7 Now to you who keep trusting, he is precious. But to those who are not trusting, “The very stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone”;
8 also he is a stone that will make people stumble, a rock over which they will trip. They are stumbling at the Word, disobeying it – as had been planned.
When I was in middle school it was a big fad to go to the store or fashion store and get the “What would Jesus Do” (WWJD) bracelets. Everyone had them! It was just the thing to have around your wrist. Yet when you look around today, we don’t see those anymore.
Man certainly has put their own interpretations on the Word of YHVH. Lets take a look at how scripture defines His Torah (instructions/Law).
1. The Law blesses (obey) and curses (disobey)
D’varim (Deuteronomy 11:26-27) ~ See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse — 27 the blessing, if you listen to the mitzvot of YHVH your Elohim that I am giving you today;
Psalm 112:1 ~ How happy is anyone who fears YHVH, who greatly delights in his mitzvot.
Psalm 119:1-2 ~ How happy are those whose way of life is blameless, who live by the Torah of YHVH! How happy are those who observe his instruction, who seek him wholeheartedly!
Psalm 128:1 ~ How happy is everyone who fears YHVH, who lives by his ways.
The typical answer for how we love God is through worship, prayer and a daily quite time. This is what I was always taught growing up and I do still agree with this statement, but there is another vital part missing that is all to often over looked in the Christian community. As part of our common practice, let’s let scripture define scripture as commentary is truly seldom needed.
GOD’s Love For Us:
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
~ Romans 5:8
OUR Love For God:
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. (3) In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome
~ 1 John 5:2-3
Moshe (Moses) said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. Stand still, and see the SALVATION(H3444) of YHWH, which he will work for you today: for the Mitzrim (Egyptians) whom you have seen today, you shall never see them again.
I saw this Scripture in a different light then I had before. I started looking at other references to the word Salvation (as the word H3444) in the Tanakh (OT). Here are some of those:
